Windows 11 Debloat – Best Software Starter Tutorial

Debloat faster with Windows 11 - Coding Lab Steffen Lippke

You need a Windows 11 debloat?

I’ll show you the best way to do it with the best tools.

Let’s get started!

What is a debloat?

Memory full? Too much bloat on your hard drive!

The word “bloat” comes from the English “to inflate”. In IT, geeks talk about bloat when a piece of software comes with lots of unnecessary extras such as adverts, monitoring, games or tools that (barely / not at all) fit the main purpose of the software.

Bloat-free software is software that is only created for one task or process.

Watch out! What is bloat-free software for one person may be software full of bloat for another. Does an operating system always include a file editor or not? Some would say no, because they would rather install their own file editor and remove the default editor. Bloat is a matter of opinion. What is bloat for one person is an essential component for another.

A debloat process attempts to remove all unnecessary programmes, tools and functions from a software or operating system. The scope of the process can be very radical or less radical, depending on taste.

Why debloat?

More storage space: Every unnecessary feature consumes storage space. A Windows installation with updates and reserved memory consumes 20 and 67 GB of memory, while most Linux distributions are content with 7 GB.

A proper debloat saves memory, which you can use more sensibly for user data such as images and videos.

More RAM: Every service and every background programme that is also active uses main memory. In 2026, a proper laptop will have 16 GB or 32 GB of main memory. But why can’t a computer run smoothly with 8 GB if all the unused crap isn’t running?

Bloat eats up your computer’s resources

More performance: Many gamers swear by a debloat PC because it enables more FPS with the same hardware without overclocking or the like.

More overview: What good is it if you have 1000 software tools installed on your computer and you have to search for the right software every time? Deblaoting brings back the overview.

Do you really need every tool?

Less duplication: Most Windows users install Office first when they install Windows. However, WordPad (Office Word only in very poor quality) is already installed on the machine by default. Deblaoting avoids programmes with the same (or worse) functions on the same box.

More individuality: Enthusiasts live in their digital world in / in front of the computer. They want to shape this world according to their wishes. No tech company should dictate the software they have to use.

Why is there bloat at all?

Couldn’t Microsoft provide a bloat-free version? Theoretically this would be possible, but practically impossible. Most customers who use Windows want all new and all old programmes to run in Windows. Windows tries / has to please everyone. The company supplies far more software than any one user will ever need.

One system for all is easier to implement. The telemetry and analysis tools help the company to improve the software and sell more.

What should I not optimise?

You shouldn’t optimise away things you don’t understand. Most debloating software is radical and can remove what you use.

Z. For example, every gamer hates Windows Defender and wants to remove it. Other antivirus programs can do the job and optimisation is advisable. If you have no other antivirus than Defender, you should postpone the optimisation.

The best debloating software tutorial

The following software is super handy for debloating, but can change your system in ways you never imagined.

Therefore, use the tools iteratively.

Reduce your system by 2–3 programmes per iteration and see if the operating system is still functional enough.

Certain configurations and combinations block each other. Execute an “undo” in the event of an error. An investigation is much more difficult if you perform a debloating with 30 steps at once. When you have found a perfect configuration, you can save it as a configuration and run it as a batch next time.

I do not recommend that you use these programmes in an operating system that is in use, because you can break things. It is best to use the tools with a fresh new installation of Windows without network cable and Wi-Fi. Do not copy any user data to the fresh Windows. In the worst case, you will reinstall Windows.

If you use these programmes on an actively used operating system, make sure that you have a current backup available. If you don’t have a reliable backup plan, I recommend the backup tutorial!

Sophia Script

The Sopia script gives you endless possibilities to customise Windows for you. Not only debloating is possible, you can also set many UI settings, uninstall UWP apps, kill Defender or eliminate OneDrive.

Sophia is powerful!

You can use Sophia as a CLI or as a graphical user interface, which is very clear. Before you use an option, you should know the effects.

Win Debloat Tools

Win Debloat Tools improve the Windows 11 experience. The software is based on a PowerShell script with a graphical user interface. Here you can decide for yourself what the software should do. You can also install your favourite software within the debloating process and have the unnecessary stuff removed. If you make a mistake, you can reset the changes with the “Undo Tweaks”.

Windows10Debloater

The Windows10Debloater also works in part with Windows 11, because Windows 11 is largely based on Windows 10. Windows 11 contains far-reaching visual changes to similar software. Most Windows 11 apps are identical to Windows 10 apps and developers do not have to programme specifically for Windows 11. Again, proceed in stages with this programme and do not run everything at the beginning.

Alternatives to debloating

Why debloat when there are lean operating systems? Consider whether it makes sense for you to switch to a Linux distribution. You can go the other way with Linux:

Install an absolute base system (CLI input only) and then decide what software you want to install. This way you have full control and have absolutely no unnecessary packages on your hard drive. It can often happen in everyday working life that you need a tool that you have to install first.

Linux itself is much slimmer, and you can expect a basic installation to use between 7 GB and 20 GB, including popular web browsers and a functional office suite. If this is not enough for you, you can remove all unnecessary software based on this minimal system.
